The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024/25 season is already underway. 12 teams have already played their first game of the 11th season. There is only one team Hyderabad FC that is yet to take on the field. This season it is bigger as there are 13 teams with 156 matches to be played in the competition. On the final day of Matchday 1 FC Goa hosted Jamshedpur FC at the Fatorda Stadium.
FC Goa last season started well. They were favourite to win the ISL Shield as well, but they failed by losing out in the later stages of the tournament. Under Manolo Marquez, the side played some serious football. The Gaurs came into the fixture after winning 4 games out of 4 against Jamshedpur. They excellently started the match keeping the pressure on Khalid Jamil’s side.
After trying hard the deadlock was broken in the added time of the first half as Armando Sadiku gave the side the all-important lead ahead of the lemon break. However, the Red Miners kept on searching for the equaliser in the second half of the game. Khalid’s side kept the pressure on the Gaurs. After the home side took almost more than 10 shots in the first half.
Khalid Jamil clinches a comeback win against FC Goa
Khalid Jamil’s magic worked in the second half after Odei Onaindia brought down Javier Siverio inside the box. The Spanish striker scored from the spot in the 74th minute to equalise for the side. As the score was 1-1 the away side was pressing for the winner in the game. Substitute Jordan Murray in the 92nd minute of the game struck from outside the box that went into the goal after hitting the lower side of the bar.
This was Jamshedpur’s first win in two years against the Gaurs. The last time they did was back in 2022 under Owen Coyle. A win in their first away game will surely boost the morale of the team and the footballers as well. They would like to continue their winning run in the forthcoming games as well.
