Oscar Bruzon has been appointed as the new head coach of East Bengal FC until the end of the current season. The Spanish coach also has the option to stay for yet another season. He led Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings to numerous domestic titles. He also had experience working with India’s Sporting Clube de Goa, Mumbai City FC, and Mumbai FC. The former Mumbai City FC coach will replace fellow Spaniard Carles Cuadrat in the red-and-gold dugout.
His first assignment as East Bengal coach is the Indian Super League (ISL) derby against Mohun Bagan SG on October 19. This will be a huge test for the Spanish manager playing the defending ISL Shield Winners who are not in their best form. However, has got back into winning ways in their last game against Mohammedan Sporting Club.
The Red and Gold Brigade did the job in the transfer market. They brought in the star footballers of last season. However, the former coach could not use them as per the potential. In the last game against Jamshedpur FC, the side had done everything except scoring the goals. They would have been 3-0 up in the first half of the game, the way they played under Bino George.
Oscar Bruzon can be the next ‘Trevor Morgan’
Will Oscar Bruzon change the dynamics of the club? East Bengal needs one win to get back in the rhythm. Under Bruzon the side that has been looking sluggish after 60 minutes will try and get back in shape as soon as possible. During Oscar Bruzon’s tenure, Bashundhara Kings scored 277 goals while conceding only 80 in 114 matches in the Bangladesh Premier League. However, the ISL is much more competitive.
The Spaniard also boasts of an impressive record in AFC continental competitions, having won 11 out of his 19 AFC Cup games. If he can change the dynamics of the football for East Bengal in this period, it really will be very helpful for the fans who are eager for that one win as they know that one win for the side will change everything. He defeated two Indian Super League (ISL) clubs in last season’s AFC Cup, whilst narrowly missing out on the knockout stages of the tournament.
