The Paris Olympics 2024 has been underway in a grand fashion. Wednesday is Day 6 of the multinational event. It has been a successful event so far in the French Capital. But there has been a controversy that happened on Tuesday. A Brazilian swimmer who was sent home from Paris in 2024 for sneaking out of the athletes’ village with her boyfriend is considering suing her country’s national federation.
Ana Carolina Vieira was allegedly caught while attempting to get out of the village with her partner Gabriel Santos. After Brazil finished eighth in their heat of the 4x100m freestyle relay last Saturday. The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) condemned the pair’s behaviour as “disrespectful and aggressively challenging” and barred them from competing in the Games. There has been a strict ‘anti-sex’ rule in the ongoing event. No athletes can stay with their partners all night long.
This is the very reason there has been beds are topped with modular mattresses, which can be adapted to different firmness levels. The reports say they were designed to prevent intimacy among athletes. The beds have been created for eco-friendly measures not to prevent any intimacy among the athletes.
Disrespectful behaviour by Ana Carolina
The COB said, “The athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, contested a technical decision made by the Brazilian National Swimming Team committee. As a result, Gabriel Santos was given a warning and Ana Carolina Vieira was dismissed from the delegation. She will return to Brazil immediately.”
Meanwhile, Otsuka issued a separate statement in light of the situation, saying, “We’re not here playing or taking a vacation. We’re here working for Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who are working for us. We can’t play around here.”
“She took a completely inappropriate position to make her point, her dismay, about the formation of the relay. It was during this period that we decided to take this situation to the disciplinary committee, discussed it and took the appropriate action. We ended up finding out through the posts.”
