The IPL 2025 auctions are just a month away, and the bidding wars amongst teams are about to start all across the country. Amidst the new rule changes applied to the Auction and Player Retention format, there have been all sorts of rumours flying around including some of the biggest names in International Cricket. The latest one ties the current Indian Cricket Team Captain, Rohit Sharma to the franchise with arguably the biggest fanbase in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
During a Q&A session with his fans on his own YouTube channel, Ab de Villiers, former South Africa and RCB Legend was asked about the former Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma, making a surprise move to the Bangalore franchise, RCB.
Replying to the fan question, Ab de Villiers stated, “That will be quite a story if Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB.” Making his reaction clear, Ab de Villiers further exclaimed, “Wow! Imagine the headlines. It will be bigger than Hardik Pandya’s move. He moved from Gujarat Titans back to Mumbai, which although wasn’t big a surprise. But if Rohit moves from Mumbai to join his rivals in RCB…oh my god!”
But the legendary no.17 also opened up about the probability of this massive switch happening before IPL 2025. De Villiers said, “I don’t think there is an option there. I do not see a possibility of Mumbai Indians leaving Rohit. I will give that zero or 0.1 per cent chance.”
But that’s not the end of the story. There are reports suggesting that there has been no established contact by the Mumbai Indians camp with their former skipper as of yet. The Mumbai Indians Head Coach Mark Boucher explained, “To be honest, there hasn’t been many conversations about Rohit’s future at all. I spoke to him last night or the night before, just to do a little review of the season. For me, he’s a master of his destiny. It’s a big auction next season. Who knows what’s going to happen? We’ll just have to take each day as it comes.”
