Novak Djokovic has done another fantastic performance. He has surpassed Roger Federer to become the world’s oldest world number one tennis player.
Djokovic, 36, turns 37 next month and has overtaken Federer. Federer became the oldest number one in June 2018. Not only this, two players are currently the most talked about players in Monte Carlo and they are Djokovic and Rohan Bopanna. The world number one ranking in men’s singles and doubles tennis is currently held by the oldest player. Djokovic is number one in singles while 44-year-old Bopanna is number one in doubles.
Novak is No. 1 for a record 420 weeks
This Monday, Djokovic reached No. 1 for the 420th week. This is also a record, that he has broken before. Federer remained number one for 310 weeks. Djokovic is the player with the most Grand Slam wins in the open round. Federer broke Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slams. Rafael Nadal broke Federer’s record of 20 Grand Slams and Djokovic surpassed Nadal’s 22 Grand Slams. Djokovic will take to the tennis court for the first time in Monte Carlo without his regular coach Goran Ivanisevic. Poland’s Iga Switek remains at number one among women.
