All-rounder Hardik Pandya recently shared his thoughts on his captaincy being reassigned due to fitness concerns. Reflecting on the decision, Pandya expressed, “I had no idea that my captaincy could be taken away due to fitness.”
As the Indian cricket team prepares for its tour of Sri Lanka, where they will play both the T20 and ODI series, Suryakumar Yadav has been named the T20 captain, replacing Hardik Pandya. Fans and pundits alike have been eager to hear Pandya’s reaction to this change.
At a recent event, Hardik elaborated on his journey with fitness and its impact on his cricket career. “I had no idea what fitness could do for me,” he admitted. “But, I feel like I should always be number one in everything. This mindset pushed me to train rigorously from a young age. I always pushed my limits, ran a lot, and built a strong foundation.”
Despite his early dedication to fitness, Hardik acknowledged that he initially lacked a deep understanding of his body and how to enhance his physical condition. “Even though my foundation was strong and I had done all the basics correctly during training, I didn’t know much about my body or how to improve my fitness,” he said. “This strong foundation, however, helped me perform well at the top level.”
Hardik also recalled his progress as a bowler, noting significant improvements in his speed. “Initially, I used to bowl at a speed of 130 km per hour. If I remember well, I managed to get it to 140 and then extended my ball to 142. It was only in 2017 that I got to know my body better and kept pushing beyond the limits,” he explained.
Despite the setback, Hardik’s commitment to fitness and continuous improvement remains unwavering, as he aims to maintain his position as one of India’s top cricketers. Who knows, maybe captaincy might be waiting for him in the future.
