Nita Ambani is the chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation. She has always been an inspiration to young sports stars. She introduced grassroots developments in sports in India. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has once again appointed her as a member of the committee. Nita Ambani got a total of 93 votes. Previously she was elected as an IOC member at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
Since then, Nita Ambani, India’s first women IOC member, has made significant contributions to the organisation while also advocating India’s athletic objectives and Olympic vision. This includes hosting the first IOC session in Mumbai in almost 40 years, in October 2023. This was welcomed as showing India’s new, ambitious face to the world.
The Reliance Foundation has led the expansion of sports in India through initiatives ranging from grassroots to elite levels, affecting approximately 22.9 million children and youth across the country since its inception. The IOC President Thomas Bach congratulated her and the other re-elected members of the committee.
Nita Ambani creates history for India
After being selected she said, ”I am very honored to be re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee and I would like to thank President Bach and all my colleagues for their faith in me. The election is not only a personal milestone for me, but also shows India’s growing influence in global sports, strengthening the movement.”
She further added, “I share this moment of joy and pride with every Indian and look forward to continuing our efforts to strengthen the Olympic Movement in India and around the world.” Under the leadership of Nita Ambani, India won the hosting rights of the IOC Annual Meeting after a 40-year wait. It was successfully organized in 2023 at Jio World Center in Mumbai.
Under the leadership of Nita Ambani, ‘India House’ has been built for the first time in the Olympics. For Indian athletes, supporters and spectators at the Paris Olympics, India is like a home away from home. India has sent 117 athletes for the forthcoming event in Paris. The nation expects a double-digit in the medal tally this time.
