Following his silver medal win at the Doha Diamond League tournament, Neeraj Chopra expressed his determination to clinch victory in the next leg of the Diamond League, scheduled for July 7th in Paris.
Neeraj secured second place in the Doha Diamond League with a remarkable javelin throw of 88.36m in his final attempt, falling short of gold medalist Jakub Vadlech by just 2 centimetres. Marking his debut in this season’s tournament, Neeraj gave his all in the last throw but narrowly missed defending his title. Two-time world champion Anderson Peters claimed the third spot with a throw of 86.62m. Neeraj, who is anticipated to bring home a medal for India in the upcoming Paris Olympics scheduled for July-August this year, stands as a strong contender. His performance in Tokyo sets high expectations for his performance in Paris.
Neeraj emphasized the significance of the Diamond League, stating, “While the Paris Olympics is my primary focus this year, the Diamond League holds great importance as well.” Reflecting on his recent achievement, he added, “Although I secured second place by a mere two centimetres in my first competition of the season, I aim to strive for better results and clinch victory next time.” Neeraj also expressed gratitude towards the Indian fans in Qatar, stating, “It’s incredibly heartening to receive support from Indian fans here in Qatar. Their unwavering support fuels our aspirations, and I am immensely proud to represent India.”
