Maharashtra has announced its twelve-man squad for the 70th Senior Men’s Group National Kabaddi Tournament starting from March 21 at the District Sports Complex, Ahmednagar. Aslam Inamdar of Thane has been entrusted with the leadership of the team and Akash Shinde of Nashik is the vice-captain of the team.
The final team of 12 players was selected after the practice camp of the Maharashtra team consisting of 29 players at Ahmednagar. The selected team consists of 3 players each from the winner Mumbai city and runner-up Ahmednagar team and 1 player each from Thane, Nashik, Raigad, Nanded, Mumbai suburbs, Ratnagiri districts.
In the 69th Senior Men’s Group Kabaddi Tournament held at Charkhi (Dadri), Haryana, the Maharashtra team finished runners-up, losing to Indian Railways. In January 2019, Maharashtra secured the third rank in the 66th National Kabaddi Tournament held at Roha, Raigad. Under the skilful guidance of Arjuna awardee Shantaram Jadhav, the team entered the tournament to win the title. The team selection looks balanced on paper. Everything depends on how that team plays on the field.
