In a heartwarming revelation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian batsman, has shared a poignant moment from his past, shedding light on his remarkable journey to success.
During a candid conversation with his coach, Jwala Singh, Jaiswal disclosed a vulnerable moment when he feared for his cricketing career. “My career is over, sir,” he tearfully expressed over the phone upon returning from the IPL in 2021, reflecting his inner turmoil and uncertainty about his future in the sport.
However, under the guidance of his coach who proved instrumental in transforming his outlook and game, he turned his fortunes. Recounting their journey, Coach Jwala Singh revealed, “Yashasvi was not known for his aggressive play initially. But during the challenging times of the pandemic, we worked relentlessly on honing his skills.” The breakthrough came through dedicated practice sessions, where Jaiswal was encouraged to unleash his potential and play fearlessly against spinners on expansive pitches. Coach Singh emphasized, “We focused on every aspect of his game, from hitting sixes to mastering shots across the field.”
The fruits of their labour were evident in the recently concluded Test series against England, where Jaiswal showcased his attacking prowess with an impressive tally of 26 sixes in just 9 innings. Notably, in the third Test, he equalled the legendary Wasim Akram’s record by smashing 12 sixes in a single inning, a feat unmatched in Test cricket history. Currently representing Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, he continues to inspire with his fearless approach on the cricket field.
Setbacks can often pave the way for extraordinary comebacks – perseverance and belief are the true hallmarks of champions like Jaiswal.
