Dr Sharwari Inamdar has achieved a remarkable feat by winning four gold medals and setting a national record with a combined lift of 378 kg in classic powerlifting categories, including squat, bench press, and deadlift. In addition to this, she excelled in the Equipped Championship, securing another four gold medals by lifting a total of 410 kg. Her outstanding performance established a new SCOT and TOTAL record in the women’s 57 kg category. This accomplishment earned her the prestigious title of ‘Strong Woman of India,’ an honour equivalent to ‘Champion of Champions,’ which she has now won for the sixth time.
The National Classic and Equipped Powerlifting competitions were held at Vaghela Garden in Indore, drawing around 480 participants from 26 states. Dr Inamdar’s exceptional performance has also secured her a spot in the Powerlifting Benchpress Commonwealth Championships, scheduled to take place in South Africa in October 2024.
Remarkably, Dr. Inamdar’s achievements are matched by her mother, Dr. Poorna Vasant Bharde, who at the age of 76, won two gold and six silver medals in the 76 kg and above 60 years category at the same competition. The duo from Maharashtra demonstrated their prowess and dedication, guided by Dr Vaibhav Inamdar, and brought pride to their state.
In April, at the Open Classic National Championship in Hyderabad, Dr Sharwari Inamdar added to her accolades by securing two silver and one gold medal for Maharashtra. Both Dr. Sharwari Inamdar and Dr. Poorna Bharde have previously represented India on the world stage, winning the World Championship last year.
Their consistent excellence in powerlifting highlights not only their individual strength and dedication but also the strong legacy of powerlifting within their family. The achievements of Dr. Sharwari Inamdar and Dr. Poorna Vasant Bharde continue to inspire and set a high benchmark for future athletes.
