While newcomers and players bought for less money shine in the IPL, veteran players bought for more than 10 crores seem to be a flop. That has added to the anxiety of the teams that have invested in such huge amounts. Multibaggers as you may want to call it. The excitement of the IPL matches is increasing with each passing match. New players are grabbing everyone’s attention by recording brilliant performances. But, players who take crores of rupees have failed so far. Especially three players whose salaries bypass more than ten crores. The performance graph of these players is declining.
Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is the most expensive player in the history of IPL. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.70 crore. But in the current IPL, he has not been able to perform as per his name. In the first two matches of the IPL, he did not take a single wicket and conceded a lot of runs. He scored 47 and 53 runs in the first two matches. After this, he was able to take two wickets in the third match against Delhi Capitals. Thus, he has only 3 wickets to his name after playing three matches in the IPL. Its performance has been very poor.
Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 11.75 crore in the IPL auction. Earlier he was a part of the RCB team setup. Harshal Patel has been very expensive in the IPL and has given away runs at a wholesale rate. Opposing batsmen have scored a lot of runs against him. He has played four matches in the current season and has taken only four wickets. Gave 47 runs in 4 overs and took 2 wickets against Delhi Capitals. Gave 45 runs and took one wicket in four overs against RCB. Gave 45 runs in four overs against Lucknow Super Giants. Not a single wicket could be taken in the match. Took 44 runs and one wicket in four overs against Gujarat Titans.
Daryl Mitchell
New Zealander Darryl Mitchell was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14 crores. However his performance in the IPL failed to make an impact. He scored 22 against RCB, 24 against Gujarat Titans, 34 against Delhi Capitals and 13 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has scored a total of 93 runs in four matches in IPL.
What should be the ideal strategy going into the mega auctions next year? Will we see the same pattern? It would be great if teams looked to change and switch their style by investing in young guns.
