On Monday, they played their first game against the reigning Durand Cup champions NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) at the Kishore Bharati Stadium, Kolkata. The Black and White Brigade won the I-League last season to gain promotion to the top-tier league of India. They became the third team from West Bengal after Mohun Bagan Super Giants and East Bengal FC.
However, the side failed to win their first game like their other arch-city rivals. MBSG is the only team with one point. East Bengal lost their first game. Mohammedan also lost their first game in the last minute of the game. Alaeddine Ajaraei’s late strike sealed the win for Juan Pedro Benali’s side. The game was end to end till the goal was scored in the dying minutes.
MDSC after soaking in the pressure for the first quarter of the game. Came in control but they lacked finishing. Mohammedan SC has found their lost glory
Will Mohammedan Sporting bounce back? The team has some quality players like Alexis Gomez and Mirajlol Kasimov. They can change the course of the match soon with their talents. It is too early to predict their position in the league. Andrey Chernyshov has certainly been the guiding light in the Mohammedan dressing room. The Russian head coach transformed the club to become one of the best in India and brought back their lost glory. Mohammedan will next host FC Goa at home.
Pedro Benali’s side will be happy to take away all three points from the away fixture. They have been impressive since the start of the season. The underdogs won their first silverware beating Mohun Bagan in the final of the Durand Cup 2024 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Kirangan, Kolkata. They will next travel to Kolkata to face their Duran Cup finalist.
