Australia will be hosting India for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Aussies have not won the trophy since the 2018-19 season. The defending World Test Champions are eyeing for a comeback at their den in the upcoming series. The Men in Blue have dominated in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 series. They won both the series in Australia and eyeing for a third successive series win at the Island Continent.
Rohit Sharma’s side are the only Asian country to beat the Aussies at their home. The Men in Blue will be playing five test matches before travelling to Australia. They have already won the first Test match against Bangladesh and the 2nd is ongoing. Next, they have New Zealand in line for the 3-match test series. The T20 World Champions need to win all the matches to secure the first position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
The Aussies have been dominating since they handed over the captaincy to Pat Cummins. The bowling all-rounder has won every possible trophy since taking over the captaincy in the Test and ODI format of the game. However, they will not make the mistake of taking India lightly. Even though they will be playing at home.
Australia takes special precaution for Indian spin duo
The Aussies are known for their mind games and it has already started. Their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, believes that Australia’s performance in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is entirely dependent on how their batters handle the Indian spin combo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Australian pitches are known for pace and bounce. However, Ashwin and Jadeja played important roles in the last two test series.
At home, they showcased their dominance when India were 144/6 against the Bangla Tigers. Ashwin scored a century at his home ground and picked five wickets on the other hand Ravindra Jadeja played an innings of 86 runs saving India and helping them post a good score. Their contribution overseas will also be very important, especially with the bat. The lower order will have come into play with the quality of the bowling attack Australia has.
