A few years back the Spanish media, more specifically the Catalonian media added a new word to their dictionaries. That word was “Messidependencia”. It referred to the dependency FC Barcelona has on Lionel Messi. With the year 2025 fast approaching, it has been over 3 years since arguably the greatest Football player ever, Lionel Andres Messi left Barcelona. But he didn’t take the term of dependency on a special talent away with him. It just got passed on to someone else. Now that dependency is known as “Laminedependencia”. In other words, the dependency that FC Barcelona have over 17-year-old Lamine Yamal.
Here is a crazy stat for everyone to ponder over:
FC Barcelona won all 12 games when Lamine Yamal started for them in La Liga. And they have dropped points in all the 4 games that Lamine Yamal didn’t start for Los Cules. Meanwhile, in the Champions League, the record is 1 loss and 4 wins with Yamal playing.
The teenager missed out on playing time for almost the whole of November with an Ankle Injury. And FC Barcelona lost two and drew two in that space of days. With him back on the pitch the Catalonian club cruised to a comfortable 5-1 victory in a tricky away fixture against Mallorca on Tuesday night. With the score tied at 1-1 at Half-Time, brilliance from Raphinha and Lamine put Barcelona well ahead of their opposition. The Brazilian scored a penalty that was won by Yamal who assisted Raphinha for Barca’s 3rd with an exquisite outside-of-the-foot Trivela pass. Frenkie De Jong and Pau Victor added one each to round up a perfect victory.
FC Barcelona are surely over-dependent on Lamine Yamal and no wonder they suffered in November without him. But one can hardly blame them for not having the Current best Playmaker in the world out injured. Do you think Laminedependencia is a thing already? Let us know in the comments below.
