Matt Henry Returns: New Zealand Reveals T20 Squad for Pakistan Series Ahead of T20 World Cup Preparations

Fast bowler Matt Henry is set to make a comeback to New Zealand’s T20 International squad as they gear up to face Pakistan in a five-match series starting on January 12. Henry, recovering from a hamstring injury, will join the 13-player squad after participating in domestic action.

Captain Kane Williamson and left-handed batter Devon Conway also make their return after being rested during the Bangladesh leg of the home summer. However, Williamson will miss the third T20I due to ongoing knee issues, with uncapped Josh Clarkson stepping in as cover, and Mitchell Santner taking over captaincy duties.

Coach Gary Stead emphasizes the importance of the Pakistan series in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup. He states, “With just three T20I series left before the T20 World Cup, all matches are vitally important for our preparation.”

Ben Sears is included for the first two matches to cover for Lockie Ferguson, while Kyle Jamieson and Michael Bracewell, recovering from hamstring and Achilles injuries, respectively, sit out. Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham are unavailable for selection.

The New Zealand T20I squad is scheduled to assemble in Auckland on January 9. The absence of key players like Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham might impact New Zealand’s performance, questioning the squad’s depth and adaptability.
