Match Point in Love; Huang Ya Qiong gets proposal after Olympic gold in mixed doubles

Paris Olympics 2024 has been successful so far. The multinational event will be ending in two weeks. China has once again been successful in the major event so far. The nation has won 31 medals so far, 13 gold and 9 silver with as many bronze. The 2024 Paris Olympics appear to be the venue for athletes to propose. First, Pablo Simonet of Team Argentina proposed to his longtime partner, Pilar Campoy, before the Olympic Games.

Then, after China’s Zheng Siwei and Huang Ya Qiong won gold in mixed doubles badminton against South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun (21-8, 21-11), fellow badminton player Liu Yu Chen decided it was time. Liu dropped down on one knee to propose to the three-time world champion. Huang Ya Qiong said yes to his badminton partner.

She will not only return to her home nation with a gold medal around her neck but also with hardware on her ring finger. The official Olympics website shared a pic of the couple’s proposal. China’s gold medal win in Paris is their fifth medal in the event since the Atlanta Games in 1996. Previously they won a silver medal in the last multinational event in Tokyo. But this time they have gained the top position.

China hopes for more medals on the weekend

Proposal on the field is nothing new nowadays. Fans do it in the stadium in front of the whole crowd in the stands. Footballers have also proposed to their girlfriends on the field after winning certain championships and matches. It has been a publicity stunt to make yourself a bit famous.

China will look to add more to their medals tally and once again become the No.1 side to win more medals than any other country in the Olympics. They finished top in the last event as well. The country will receive gold and silver medals in women’s doubles badminton. Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan will meet Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning in the All-China final on Saturday.
