Manchester United lucky or highlights bigger problems after scrappy win

The English Premier League (EPL) 2024/25 season has already kicked off. On the opening day of the fixture, Manchester United faced Fulham at the Old Trafford. The Red Devils did not have the best of pre-season. However, the new additions to the squad have been breathtaking. They look like a formidable side with the Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Lenny Yoro, and Joshua Zirkzee. Erik ten Hag has not done it yet there will be some new additions as well.

However, these new signings only started the game on Friday night which is Mazraoui. The Moroccan full-back played for 80 minutes and was then replaced by De Ligt. The game was evenly poised in the first half with both sides failing to convert their chances. United should have been 2-0 up had Bruno Fernandes scored inside half an hour of the game. He was denied by the strong hands of Bernd Leno.

Former Bologna striker Zirkzee became the saviour of United on the opening day. The Dutch striker scored in the 87th minute which turned out to be the winner of the game. He became a super sub and was there at the right place at the right time of the match to seal the game for his side.

Things can turn out different for Manchester United

Is this a warning sign for Manchester United or they were lucky to edge out? This was the first match of the new season and it will be too early to predict the club’s future in the current season. However, there are concerning signs for the team. They did not have a proper No.9 from the start of the game. Rasmus Hojlund is out with an injury and will return after three weeks.

Zirkzee also came in late in the second half. In the next match, the Dutch striker will start the game in front and will love to keep his goal-scoring momentum going. De Ligt also will replace Harry Maguire. The season is long and tough the team needs to get in shape as soon as possible. Otherwise, the team will be in deep trouble and might finish outside the top 4.
