Manchester City’s trophy cabinet is jinxed, winning Community Sheild, losing EPL

Manchester City has been the best club in England over the recent few years. The Sky Blues have become the 4-time champions of the English Premier League (EPL) in five years. Since the inclusion of Pep Guardiola, they earned their maiden UEFA Champions League (UCL) title back in the 2022/23 edition. They have overpowered every club across Europe and played some amazing brand of football.

In the first match of the new season, Manchester City faced their local rivals Manchester United in the Community Shield Final on Saturday at the iconic Wembley Stadium. Previously when these two sides met here at London, United defeated their rivals in the FA Cup final winning 2-1. But on the weekend Guardiola’s side took their revenge as they defeated the Red Devils in the penalty shootout of the match. The match was settled 1-1 after the 9 minutes.

Alejandro Garancho scored for the Old Trafford side in the 82nd minute with Bernardo Silva equalising in the 89th minute of the game. The game went on to penalties and yet again Jadon Sancho at Wembley missed a penalty for the side. Despite taking the advantage in the very first shot the side failed to win the silverware.

Manchester City to lose EPL 2024/25 season

Is there a jinx or curse of winning the Community Shield? This can be called a curse or jinx for Manchester City which has been working. In the last four Community Shields, they lost all four of them before winning on Saturday. But the twist comes that whenever the side went on to lose the Shield final they went to win the EPL every time.

Before Saturday’s silverware they won in 2019 and the very same year Liverpool went on to become the champions of the Premier League, under Jurgen Klopp. So this might be the season that the fans might see a new champion of the EPL. As luck has not favoured Guardiola’s side since they won the Shield final last time around.
