India’s star badminton player P.V. Sindhu‘s quest for a title continued to elude her as she faced a tough defeat in the final round of the Malaysia Masters Badminton Tournament. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, succumbed to a 21-16, 5-21, 16-21 loss against China’s Wang Ziyi in a thrilling match.

Sindhu, who was making her first final appearance in 2024, initially looked strong. She won the first game 21-16, showcasing her powerful smashes and tactical play. However, the match took a dramatic turn in the second game. Wang Ziyi, demonstrating resilience and skill, dominated the second game with a 21-5 score, completely outplaying Sindhu.

The final game was a rollercoaster. Sindhu started off impressively, building a substantial 11-3 lead and seeming poised for victory. Yet, Wang Ziyi mounted a remarkable comeback. With precise shots and unwavering focus, Wang clawed back into the game, eventually overtaking Sindhu to win the final game 21-16. The match lasted a gruelling one hour and 19 minutes, testing the endurance and skill of both players.

This defeat extends Sindhu’s title drought, as she has been unable to secure a championship despite her consistent performances. Her determination and effort, however, remain unquestionable.
