The 2024 Summer Olympics are being hosted in the French Capital, Paris. All around the world, Paris is also known as the City of Love and it feels like the air is really contagious! Love has been floating around the Olympic Arena and there have been many moments at the Summer Games that have made fans go “Awww🥺”. Let’s take a look at some of these moments that will make you believe that true love does exist!
1. “Forever your biggest fan.”
Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis celebrated his 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal by embracing and kissing his girlfriend, Desire Inglander, after breaking the pole vault world record. Inglander, emotional and teary-eyed, captured the moment on video, sharing it on Instagram with the caption, “Forever your biggest fan.”
2. Gabby runs towards her loved ones
As soon as she crossed the finish line, she knew where to run. After winning gold in the women’s 200m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Gabrielle Thomas, also known as Gabby, ran straight to her boyfriend, Spencer McManes, who has been a supportive partner since they began dating in October 2022. He warmly congratulated her on her incredible achievement.
3. Rugby Romantics
After winning a bronze medal, Team USA rugby sevens player Alev Kelter proposed to her girlfriend, fellow rugby player Kathryn Treder, at the Museum of Modern Art. The heartwarming moment was captured on video by Team USA skateboarder Heimana Reynolds, with the proposal perfectly timed for a surprise as they ascended the stairs.
4. Exes and Aces
Czech tennis stars Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac, who ended their relationship months ago, won mixed doubles gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. When asked about their relationship status, the duo playfully kept fans guessing, with Siniakova calling it “personal” and Machac teasing it’s a “top secret.”
5. The Golden Proposal
Huang Ya Qiong had a memorable Paris 2024 Olympics, clinching Gold in mixed doubles with Badminton partner Zheng Si Wei and receiving a surprise marriage proposal. After their unbeaten run to victory, teammate Liu Yuchen proposed to Huang in a touching moment at La Chapelle Arena. She emotionally accepted, and the crowd celebrated as Liu placed the ring on her finger.
6. The Winning Embrace
Tara Davis-Woodhall, overjoyed after winning Olympic gold in the long jump, made sand angels before sprinting to the stands. She leapt into the arms of her husband, Hunter Woodhall, who tearfully embraced her, whispering, “Oh my God, baby, you’re the Olympic champion.” The moment was pure joy and triumph.
7. The Record-Breaking Proposal
On August 6, French athlete Alice Finot finished fourth in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, setting a European record with an 8:58.67 time. Honouring a personal promise, she proposed to her boyfriend, Bruno Martinez Bargiela, moments after the race, presenting him with her race pin engraved “Love is in Paris.” He accepted, sealing their love in the City of Light.
8. Sealing their bond in the Seine
Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi issued an apologetic message to his wife after losing his wedding ring during the Paris opening ceremony. The ring slipped off while he was on Italy’s boat on the River Seine. Despite his regret, Tamberi offered a poetic solution, suggesting they throw his wife’s ring into the river as well, symbolizing their bond and creating an opportunity to renew their vows in the city of love.
