Everything is falling apart for Liverpool. Their challenge for the domestic title is as good as over. The Reds’ Europa League hopes were dashed at Atalanta. They can’t seem to win a game for their lives. However, something even more concerning has transpired. In the 82nd minute of Liverpool’s draw against West Ham, starlet Mohammad Salah and Jurgen Klopp butted heads. Salah had to be held back by his teammates. Is lack of mentality the reason for Liverpool’s lack of success in the tail-end of the season or is it a deeper issue?
A Moment of Madness for Salah
Salah started on the bench for Liverpool against West Ham. The Egyptian King’s form has been abysmal. He hasn’t scored or assisted in his last 7 appearances. Shocking by his standards. The myth of Salah underperforming after Christmas has once again been validated. Liverpool’s talisman must have already been frustrated and losing his place in the side, albeit temporarily, must have irked him even more. In the 82nd minute, Klopp finally brought on Salah but right before he did, there was a verbal spat on the sidelines. Some things were said on either side and Salah was livid. Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez had to hold him back. This little moment of madness was the highlight of the game. After the match, when Salah was asked about the incident, he responded sardonically by saying “If I speak, there will be fire.”
End of an Era
Klopp’s farewell season has become a fiasco. This additional drama is further going to dampen the spirits in the dressing room. Both Salah and Klopp, as of this moment, are set to leave Liverpool. The Reds must at least win the remaining league games to at least put pressure on City and Arsenal. With Arne Slot being hired as the German’s replacement, it’s the end of an era at Anfield.
