Pakistan Cricket over recent years has struggled at the biggest stages. The Men in Green despite looking good on paper have failed to perform in the major tournaments. The players have not been able to take on the pressure and make use of their skills in any major tournaments. The former cricketers are furious with the current bunch of cricketers. The management has always been called into question for the dismal show.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not been able to manage the system properly. The lack of domestic cricket in the country has been a major factor in the underdevelopment of the cricketers. They might be big names in the international circuit and have achieved milestones.
But playing domestic cricket helps in the betterment of the players. Bowling 20-25 overs in a day consistently will help them on the world stage. Batting in tough conditions will increase patience and a shot-playing nature. These things need to improve to win any silverware especially the ODI World Cup or World Test Championship.
Pakistan can cricket can never improve until players show commitment
PCB is exploring “several key changes” to the structure of international cricketers’ commitments to Pakistan cricket, which might affect their ability to receive NOCs, participate in local cricket, and amend central contracts agreed to last year. The board has decided to that domestic cricket “is now compulsory for players.”
Why is Pakistan failing to perform under pressure? The question has been circulating for some time now. In their recent T20 World Cup 2024 they failed to qualify from the group stage after they lost to USA and India. The loss to the USA was hugely dissatisfying for the former cricketers. Losing to India yet again on the biggest stage. The Men in Green failed to chase down the target of 120 runs against the current champions.
Workload management is also a question. They do not focus on their betterment playing in the domestic format. While they go overseas and play in different franchise leagues around the world. At the moment, several Pakistan cricket players believe the spirit of the agreement to allow players to participate in two abroad competitions every year is not being respected. PCB is likely to use workload management as a justification for their refusal.
