The echoes of clanging weights and resounding cheers filled the Divisional Sports Complex as Kolhapur asserted its dominance in the State Level Girls’ Weightlifting Championship. The spirited competition, hosted by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Weightlifting Association, witnessed a remarkable performance by athletes from across Maharashtra.
Kolhapur’s weightlifting prowess manifested in a triumphant display, claiming three prestigious trophies—Youth First, Junior Second, and Senior First. The Maharashtra Krida Prabodhini team secured the runner-up title in the junior category, while Thane emerged victorious in the senior group. Nashik secured the runner-up position in the youth category, adding to the diverse achievements in the competition.
Raju Bhau Vaidya, President of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District Weightlifting Association, inaugurated the competition, setting the stage for a fierce yet friendly contest. The event witnessed the presence of notable figures, including Sudhir Mhalskar, President of the State Weightlifting Association, and Santosh Simhanse, Secretary, among others.
The state-level weightlifting competition, featuring 200 athletes from various districts, showcased the collective strength and determination of participants. The event encompassed ten weight groups, spanning the Youth, Junior, and Senior categories. The competition’s conclusion marked not only individual achievements but also highlighted the significance of sports at the grassroots level.
The success of the event was attributed to the collaborative efforts of organizers, officials, and supporters, including Suresh Bahule, Ganesh Betude, Bhima More, and others. The competition received valuable support from the Sai Sports Training Center, reinforcing the importance of community backing in sports events.
