KL Rahul’s Batting Form Is A Reality Check For India’s Future

India A is playing their second test match against Australia A. The Men in Blue side has been completely dominated by the home side in the first unofficial test. In the second test also the misery of batting continues as India is 73/5 with an 11-run lead. The young side is getting a reality check along with some senior batters in the side. It has been a horrifying performance for the team.

India will be playing their first test on the 22nd of November at Perth. Ahead of that the practice matches for the batters are giving heartaches to the fans. KL Rahul who is reported to open in the first match in the absence of Rohit Sharma, has been in poor touch. He has just scored 14 runs in the unofficial test for the side. This is a worrying concern for the top order.

Rahul’s poor run with the bat continued in Australia A after he was dismissed for 10 runs in the second innings of the unofficial test. He had mustered just four runs in the first innings. KL Rahul was bowled out in the first innings by Scott Boland’s excellent delivery. This time, spinner Corey Rocchiccioli bowled him in an unusual method. The bad run of results is not shaping up well for his hopes.

KL Rahul is a burden to the Indian team

Is KL Rahul’s spot in the lineup unjustified? Even if he is included in the starting XI, his lack of form is not a positive indicator ahead of a crucial series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India must win the series 4-0 to automatically qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final. KL Rahul was dropped from the India XI for the second and third Tests against New Zealand.

He needs to create an impact at the MCG to win over the selectors and think tank. However, his unreliability has pushed him down the selection ladder. He scored 38 and 68 runs in two Tests against Bangladesh, after scoring 86 runs against England in Hyderabad. His last Test century, 101 runs, was against South Africa at Centurion. Before his century, Rahul had only scored more than 25 runs once in his previous 12 innings.
