Kareena Kapoor Speaks On The Never-Ending Issue Of Pay Parity In Bollywood

Kareena Kapoor Khan who’s one the prominent actress of both generations speaks on how she’s striving to get paid more or as equal as men in the movies. The actress who recently made a grand comeback with Singham, has been living on her toes with the audience’s love over her return to the Singham Franchise. The actor will be opposite Ajay Devgn in Singham Again.

Kareena Kapoor Khan recently opened up on the pay parity issue in the film industry and not getting equal compensation as their male counterparts. This isn’t the first time Kareena Kapoor spoke on this issue, the actress has never hesitated to bring out the flaws in the industry. She’s outspoken on the problem of pay parity in Bollywood. Even in the early 2000s, Kareena Kapoor demanded equal pay as Shah Rukh Khan in Kal Ho Naa Ho, which was produced by Karan Johar. Later on, the movie was offered to Preity Zinta which caused tension between the two actresses.

Bebo bought again the core issue she’s been fighting for all her career. In an interview, the actress said, No means no, so now it’s a time when you feel if this is not worthy enough for my character or worthy enough for myself, I’m not going to do it. And I will wait, I will push myself to do better that they realise I’m equally good as my male counterparts. The ₹1,000 crore club? Koshish toh jari hai (I’ve been trying),” Kareena said. For young girls of today, saying no should not make them feel that they’re not confident. No means no, whether it’s something you’re not comfortable doing, something you’re not comfortable wearing, or something you’re not comfortable eating, shape, size, a job you’re looking forward to doing, if you feel if it’s something less for you, one should not take it. One should be so self-assured that one can push oneself to achieve and do something better. So I think no as an answer should be something reassuring, rather than making you feel underconfident,” Kareena added.

In any film, the actress contributes more to the success as any man, so they deserve to be paid equal compensation. Actresses are often used to drive massive audiences to the box office, especially in high-profile movies. If we don’t pay equally how do we expect to inspire people on a broader level? This will only demotivate the aspiring actresses.

Comment down if you think these gender norms in the industry should be broken soon.
