There is growing speculation that Jay Shah will become the ICC President. Recently, the current ICC President Greg Barclay distanced himself from the race after his tenure ended on November 30. This development has intensified discussions about Shah stepping into the role of ICC President. However, there is no official confirmation yet, and the deadline for filing the nomination form is August 27.
While Jay Shah has not yet confirmed whether he will take over the ICC, all eyes are on who will replace him as BCCI Secretary if he ascends to the ICC presidency. Shah is believed to have the support of 15 of the 16 ICC board members, but they have limited time to decide on this transition. Shah’s second consecutive term as BCCI Secretary still has a year remaining. The new ICC President will assume office on December 1.
CAB president to replace Jay Shah?
A three-year cooling-off period for Jay Shah to return to the BCCI will begin after his tenure ends in October 2025. The question of his replacement remains unresolved as Shah and his team have yet to announce their plans. Potential candidates for the BCCI Secretary position include Rajeev Shukla, Ashish Shelar, and Arun Dhumal, who currently hold various positions within the BCCI alongside Shah.
Rajeev Shukla has been with the BCCI for a long time and would likely face little opposition if named as Shah’s successor. Shukla is currently the Vice President of BCCI. Board Treasurer Ashish Shelar is a significant figure in the Mumbai Cricket Association administration.
Meanwhile, IPL President Arun Dhumal also has substantial experience in managing the board. Additionally, other names are being considered that could be surprise contenders, including Joint Secretary Devjit Saikia, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley, and former Bengal Cricket Association President Avishek Dalmiya.
