The Indian Super League (ISL) is the top-tier league of Indian football. Over the years several superstar footballers have taken part in the competition. From Luis Garcia to Diego Forlan, world-class footballers have come to India to showcase their talents. Indian football has also gained new heights after the inclusion of the tournament. The season will be entering its 11th edition.
However, till some previous editions, it had no official sponsors. But Nandini has been rumoured to become the official sponsor for the upcoming season. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) previously sponsored Scotland and Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024. Now they have decided to promote their brand in the Indian football circuit. The new season will start in a few days as the teams have geared up their squads for the bigger season.
Fans to witness more matches
ISL 11 will be bigger and better with the start of the promotion of a new team from the I-League from the 2022/23 edition giving Punjab FC the chance to feature in the league in the 2023/24 edition. This time it will be the third Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club will be featuring in the top tier league. They have gained promotion after becoming the champions of the 2023/24 edition.
They will feature alongside their other two city rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giants and East Bengal FC. 13 teams will be featuring this time as the relegation system has not started yet. There will be 24 matches instead of 22. The teams need to be fit with more matches this time and the tournament will also go on for a longer period than last time. This will showcase more craze and battle of the three Kolkata Giants will also increase the viewership of the ISL.
New rules of ISL will develop Indian football
- Teams must have an Indian assistant coach with an AFC Pro License or equivalent. The rule is intended for the development of Indian coaches and to ensure continuity within teams.
- The clubs will have the right to protest a referee’s decision to give a red card. If they believe it was unjustified.
- Each club may make one concussion substitute every match, regardless of other substitutions. The opposition side will also receive an additional substitute chance.
- The teams can exclude three of their U-23 footballers from the existing salary-cap rule.
Who plays the season opener of the ISL 2024/25?
Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) and Mumbai City FC (MCFC) the shield winners and the cup winners of the last edition of ISL will be playing the opening game of the competition on 13 September at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Kirangan.

The live streaming of the match will start from 7:30 PM IST. The matches will be shown on Sports 18 and will also be available for live streaming on the Jio Cinema app and website.
