Reports have suggested that Bayern Munich are close to reaching a deal with Vincent Kompany to make him their new manager. The 38-year-old was the man in charge of Burnley in their relegation from the Premier League this season. However, that has not stopped the German giants from advancing in talks with him.
Kompany helped Burnley get into the Premier League in style as the Clarets won the promotion by winning the Championship with 101 points. His attacking playing style and command over the dressing room had invited offers from many top clubs last summer as well. But the former Manchester City player decided to stay at Burnley and help them in their pursuit to stay in the Premier League.
While getting Burnely relegated may be a stain on his resume, there is no doubt that Vincent Kompany has the ability to coach big teams. His playing style did not translate into the Premier League as he did not have the right talent needed to deliver in the top flight of English football. However, if he is going to be a coach at Bayern, Kompany will have enough resources and talent to play his style of football, which has yielded good results in the past.
Is the Bayern Munich job a big step up for Vincent Kompany?
Bayern Munich are one of the best teams in Europe. They are always expected to win trophies and being their manager is certainly not an easy task. Thomas Tuchel who is a Champions League winner was under fire when he was not able to deliver good results with them. The club decided to part ways with him at the end of the 2023-24 season as he failed to deliver a trophy.
Another example of how ruthless the club are is when they sacked Julian Nagelsmann. The young coach was doing a phenomenal job and had the team playing good football. But he was sacked midway through last season due to a few poor results.
This means that Vincent Kompany is expected to fire on all cylinders from the very first game he manages the club. They have some of the best players in world football and while it may look like an easy job to get them to win games, it is not as the German League has got a lot more challenging than it was in previous years.
Bayern Leverkusen’s mercurial rise has put more pressure on Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The margin for error now is less for the two top teams as Xabi Alonso’s men have proven that they have the ability to beat any team in the world.
Can Kompany win trophies with Bayern?
Vincent Kompany likes to play in possession and he certainly has some technical players who can help him execute that at Bayern. However, the change from Burnley to Bayern Munich is expected to take some time to get used to as he will constantly be under the microscope in Germany. He certainly has the personality to take over a club of the stature of Bayern, but only time will tell if he delivers the trophies that are expected to be won by a manager who is in charge of the club.
