IPL 2024 to Kick Off on March 22; CSK to take on RCB in Opener

The schedule for the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was announced on Thursday. The opening match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and RCB will be played in Chennai on March 22.

The schedule of 21 matches of the first phase of the IPL was announced on Thursday. Chennai Super Kings team will play the opening match for a record ninth time. Previously, Chennai had played its first match in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.

The first phase matches of the IPL will be played in Chennai, Mohali, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Visakhapatnam.

Entire IPL in India

IPL President Arun Dhumal had said that the entire tournament will be held in India. Only in 2009 was the IPL played entirely abroad (South Africa). In 2014, some matches were played in the UAE due to the general elections. However, the tournament was held in India despite the general elections in 2019.
