IPL 2024: IPL Schedule to be Announced in Two Phases

The 2024 IPL Season will kickstart on March 22nd but the schedule for the tournament will be announced in two phases owing to the Lok Sabha elections, explained IPL Governing Council Chairman, Arun Dhumal.

The 2024 IPL is scheduled to start on March 22 in Chennai. The date of the final match has not been fixed. Arun Dhumal explained that the IPL tournament will be held in India. The final match of the IPL is likely to be held on May 26 since just a few days after the end of the IPL, the ICC T20 World Cup will start.

Earlier, the IPL was held abroad in 2014 and 2019. Such a decision was taken at that time due to the Lok Sabha elections. However, this year the competition will be held in India. The schedule will be finalized after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.

Due to the IPL tournament, Indian and foreign players have to prepare for the T20 World Cup only through the IPL matches. The first match of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup cricket tournament will be held on June 5. So the players will not get much time to practice together.

The T20 World Cup cricket tournament has been held three times after the IPL. There is a gap of 20 days between the IPL final and the start of the T20 World Cup cricket tournament. This period is very short. In the three T20 World Cup cricket tournaments held immediately after the IPL, the Indian team failed to cross the group stage. In this tournament, the Indian team won once and runner-up twice.
