Inter Milan’s Sensational Scudetto Triumph

Inter secured a sensational Scudetto earlier this week. They beat their arch-rivals, AC Milan to win their 27th Scudetto. This Nerazzurri side is truly special. They’ve only recorded one loss and conceded just 18 goals in 33 games. Their early elimination in Europe served as fuel for their domestic conquest. Inter may be kings of Italy right now, but Pippo Inzaghi’s side isn’t satisfied. They want more and a European endeavor may be on the cards for next season.

Summer Offload

Inter Milan had a disappointing season last year. They lost the title to Napoli. Despite their brilliant champions league run, they were routed by a rampaging Man City. Something had to change. They had a lot of high-profile departures in the summer. Andre Onana left for Manchester United. Romelu Lukaku left after a soap opera for domestic rivals Roma. Furthermore, Centre-back Milan Skriniar also departed for Paris. This offload of players allowed Inter to build funds for their transactions.

Intelligent Acquisitions

Inzaghi and The Inter organization were extremely intelligent in the transfer window. They completed the acquisition of world cup winner Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich. They also completed the signing of Yann Sommer from Bayern. Marcus Thuram was brought in for free and he has had a spectacular season. All their signings have fit in seamlessly into their system and helped them lift the Scudetto.

Inter’s Inspiration

Lautaro Martinez was instrumental towards Inter’s success. He was declared as the captain at the start of the season, after Samir Handanovic’s retirement. Since then, Martinez has scored 23 goals in the Serie A and topped the scoring charts. He has been one of the best players in the world this season and done incredibly well for Inter. The Argentinian and Marcus Thuram have combined for 50 goals and assists this season.

European Dream

Inter have had a spectacular season. They’ve reached the pinnacle of Italian football. But is that enough? A team as good as this must contest in The Champions League. This season their European dream was cut short by Atletico, but next season, they must go in with all guns blazing. With some improvements and adjustments, Inter have a serious shot of making a deep run in Europe. Can they relive the glory of 2010 next season or is this Inter side a one-season wonder? Only time will tell.
