India has been completely outclassed by New Zealand in the home series. The Men in Blue were white-washed for the first time in the Test series against New Zealand 3-0. It is an unwanted record for Indian cricket. This defeat not only meant that India’s 18-match home series winning streak came to an end. It is India’s first whitewash in a home Test series since losing to South Africa in 2000.
India did not win any matches in that series. It took another team more than two decades to do so against them. India muses on the shocking defeat, with fans wondering how the squad would rebound. The series ended with a miserable performance from veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They have been under intense scrutiny following their lackluster performances. In the last six innings, the senior batters scored 96 and 91 runs, respectively.
Despite their poor performance there is a second and might be a final chance for Rohit and Kohli in test match cricket. They have the chance to prove themselves in Australia in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. They are still at their very best when it comes to playing under pressure and against tough opponents. However, if they fail it might be the last time the RO-KO will be seen in whites for India.
Indian Cricket ready for a major decline
India’s future in red-ball Cricket looks bleak, despite the criticism of Rohit and Kohli, India does not have the proper replacement of the two great batters in the traditional format. The transition phase will not happen and the Men in Blue side will be losing series in SENA countries. During Kohli’s debut, there was a transition with many new young players like Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane replacing some greats like Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman.
Till now there has been no such transition, with the batters being still vulnerable playing the toughest format of the game. India has no chance of fighting in the tours. The domestic format does produce a lot of players but are they good enough to perform in the SENA countries the question stands there. The management needs to find out the solution as soon as possible.
