As the Paris Olympics approach, a total of 49 Indian athletes from various disciplines, including hockey, archery, and tennis, have arrived in the Sports Village, signalling the start of the much-anticipated Games. The Paris Games, set to commence on July 26, have already seen a significant influx of athletes from around the world, all eager to showcase their talents and vie for Olympic glory.
India’s contingent is gearing up to surpass its previous Olympic performance. In the Tokyo Olympics, India achieved its best-ever medal haul with a total of seven medals. The standout moment came when javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra made history by winning India’s first-ever gold medal in athletics. Chopra is now poised to defend his title in Paris and further solidify his place in Olympic history.
The Indian athletes who have arrived in Paris include key teams and individuals across various sports. The hockey teams are well-represented, with a 19-member Indian men’s hockey team making its way to the French capital. Additionally, an eight-member table tennis squad has joined the delegation. In the realm of shooting, ten of the 21 qualified shooters have already reached Chateauroux, their designated training base. The archery team, consisting of six members, along with two tennis players, a badminton player, a sailor, and two swimmers, have also settled into their Olympic accommodations.
In total, India will be represented by 117 athletes—70 men and 47 women—across 69 events, competing for 95 medals. Alongside these athletes, the Indian delegation includes 140 support staff members, who play a crucial role in ensuring that the athletes are well-prepared and supported throughout the competition.
