India’s latest Paralympics glory is a true benchmark or inflated achievement

India has been performing amazingly in the Paris Paralympics 2024. The nation sent 84 athletes to the multinational event in Paris. They have performed superbly so far in their events. India surpassed the Tokyo medals tally to create a new benchmark for the nation in the historic event. The nation has won 20 medals so far in the major event overtaking the 19 medals tally of the Tokyo Paralympics.

Tuesday following a late surge by the contingent on Day 6 of the Paris Paralympics 2024. Deepthi Jeevanji, Sharad Kumar, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Ajeet Singh, and Sundar Gurjar all won medals late on Tuesday. They ensured that India concluded the day on a high note following a few close calls at the start of the competition. It has been a historic moment for the athletes and the nation as well.

So far the nation has won 3 golds, 7 silver, and 10 bronze medals at the Paralympics. They are in the top 20 ranking of the nation with the most medals in the event so far. With four more days remaining, India might hope to surpass 25 and achieve a new high. Previously India had won five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.

India’s para-athletes create record

Is this a true benchmark? Yes, it is a massive achievement for the para-athletes who have given all their hard work, and dedication, and shown immense determination to never give up on their dreams. For example, Sheetal Devi was born with a rare medical condition called phocomelia and is the first and only international para-archery champion without upper limbs. Has also won a medal for the nation.

However, the gold medals tally is less than the Tokyo in the last edition they won 5 and so far they have won 3 with two fewer. However, it does not count with the overall success that the nation has got in Paris. The fans and the management will be proud of the achievements and the success in the Paralympics so far.
