India’s historic medal streak; Women’s trend dominates in Olympics

India has opened their medal account in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. Manu Bhaker has won the first medal for the nation. The shooter after a horrifying end to the last Olympics in Tokyo made an excellent comeback in the current multinational event. Bhaker won bronze in the Women’s Single 10m Air Pistol event. This is not the first time that any woman has opened a medal account for the nation in the event.

In the previous two editions of the major event, Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the 2021 edition of the Olympics in the women’s 49kg category. She became only the second Indian weightlifter to win a medal in the multinational event. This was a historic achievement for the weightlifter. She has been considered favourite to win another medal this time in Paris.

Next in line was Sakshi Malik back in the Rio 2016 Olympics. She won the first medal for the nation and won a bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympics in the women’s 58kg category to become the first Indian woman wrestler to win an Olympic medal. Since then her life completely changed in an opposite direction.

India’s girls equally contribute in medal tally

The nation will be proud of the girls who are performing brilliantly under pressure for the nation. This is a historic moment for the country, as they hope to win some more medals and double up the medals tally for the first time in history. India has a chance of doing that if they can keep up the pressure. Some athletes have yet to take part in the tournament.

Among the 117 athletes, 47 women will compete for the medals. There are huge chances that they can make the country proud once again in the major event. In the first round, PV Sindhu completely dominated Fathimath Nabaaha in the first round. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist won 21-9, 21-6 in just 29 minutes in her opening match at the Paris Olympics.
