India’s Ambition To Topple Germany Is An Unrealistic Expectation

Indian Hockey in recent years has taken a big leap. The Men’s team has won the bronze medal in the two successive years of the Olympics. They recently won the Asian Championship beating China. It has been the best year of Hockey for the nation. For this very reason, Indian Hockey has brought back the Hockey India League (HIL) after seven years. The Indian men’s hockey team will face Germany in the first of two games on Wednesday.  

The match will be held at the famous Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. Since 2013, the two teams have met 19 times, with India winning eight and Germany seven. Germany, the incumbent World Champions and silver medalists at the Paris 2024 Olympics. They will want to maintain their supremacy. India will be ready to avenge their tight 3-2 setback in the Paris Games quarterfinals. This is a huge chance for Harmanpreet Singh’s side.

The Indian team will be looking to make full use of the home conditions and support. Craig Fulton and Harmanpreet both have fond memories of the city.
