In a stellar performance at the Shooting Asian Olympic Qualifiers, Rudranksh Patil and Mehuli Ghosh clinched India’s fifth gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event on Tuesday.
The dynamic Indian duo outshone China’s Shen Yufan and Zhu Mingshui with a final score of 16-10. Despite securing the second position in the qualifying round with 631.3 marks, Rudranksh and Mehuli displayed remarkable precision in the final to emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, Ridham Sangwan and Arjun Singh Cheema settled for silver in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, facing defeat against Vietnam’s Thu Vinh Trinh and Quang Hue Pham in the final.
Although topping the qualifying round with 582 marks, the Indian pair couldn’t maintain their lead in the final showdown, and the Vietnamese duo claimed the title with a stellar performance.
In the junior category, Isha Taksale and Uma Mahesh Medineni secured the gold medal in the junior mixed team air rifle event by defeating China’s Chu Jiqing and Pen Bowen with a score of 17-11.
Additionally, Abhinav Sao and Anvi Rathod demonstrated their prowess by defeating local players P Steven Farrell Saverio and M Putri Fadillah with a score of 16-10.
While India celebrates success in the Shooting Asian Olympic Qualifiers, some argue that the focus on gold medals may overshadow the tremendous efforts and achievements of athletes securing silver.
