Indian runner KM Deeksha Sets New National Record

At the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles, Indian sprinter KM Deeksha achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new national record in the 1500m race. Meanwhile, Avinash Sable from Maharashtra clinched the silver medal in the 5000m event.

In the men’s 5000m event, Avinash Sable secured the second position. Deeksha delivered an outstanding performance in the 1500m race, clocking 4 minutes 4.78 seconds to claim the second spot and shattering the previous record held by Harmilan Bains. Bains had set the record at the 2021 National Athletics Championships in Warangal with a time of 4 minutes 5.39 seconds.

Hailing from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, Deeksha had previously achieved her best timing of 4 minutes 6.07 seconds during the finals of the National Inter-State Athletics Championship held in Bhubaneswar in 2023. In the women’s 5000m race, Parul Chaudhary finished fifth with a time of 15 minutes 10.69 seconds, while Ankita secured the tenth position with 15 minutes 28.88 seconds in the same event.

Avinash Sable demonstrated his prowess in the men’s 5000m race, clinching the silver medal with a commendable timing of 13 minutes 20.37 seconds. Another Indian athlete, Gulveer Singh, also participated in the event, finishing with a time of 13 minutes 31.95 seconds. Sable holds the national record in the 5000m race with a timing of 13 minutes 19.30 seconds. Additionally, Karthik Kumar secured the second position in the men’s 10,000m race, clocking a time of 28 minutes 7.66 seconds.
