England have been dealt a huge blow as spinner Rehan Ahmed has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against England due to personal reasons.
The 19-year-old featured in the opening three matches of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series against India, but will return to England due to an urgent family matter. England released a statement on social media just before the start of the fourth Test in Ranchi, declaring the spinner would return home and no replacement would be named.
“Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons,” the statement read.
“He will not be returning to India and we will not be naming a replacement.”
Rehan made his Test debut against Pakistan at the end of 2022 and added a further three Tests to his name during the ongoing tour of India, claiming 11 wickets at an average of 44. With Rehan sidelined, England gave another chance to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir.
