After leading India to victory in the second Test against England, Indian vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah revealed the secret behind his success in the game.
Bumrah was quoted saying, “I don’t look at numbers. As a young bowler, I did what I could and I did. That makes me happier. I learned the art of the yorker by watching great bowlers like Waqar, Wasim, and Zaheer Khan and it is an effective weapon of mine.”
The Indian team went into the second Test trailing 0-1 in the five-match Test series and also had several regular first-team regulars missing due to injury or personal reasons. In this scenario, players like Bumrah had to step up and fill the void left by the absence of such players.
The 30-year-old acknowledged this by saying, “We’re going through a transition so I feel it’s my responsibility to help them in any way I can. We discussed a few things. I (Rohit) have been playing with him for many days. I have no competition with Anderson. Before being a cricketer, I was a fan of fast bowling. If someone is doing well, congratulate them. I look at the conditions, the wicket and think what options I have.”
