India in the Paris Olympics 2024 won 6 medals, including a silver and five bronze. The nation has been thinking of hosting the Olympics. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said that India is aiming to host the 2036 Olympics and finish in the top 10 in the medal table. India had sent a team of 117 players to Paris this year. This figure was equal to that of the Rio Olympics.
The nation won more medals than Rio but fell far behind in the standings. India finished 71st in Paris. This happened after 24 years when India’s rank in the Olympics fell below 70. At the same time, India won seven medals including one gold in the Tokyo Olympics.
Speaking at the ‘Developed India Ambassador-Youth Connect’ event at Pune’s SP College, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “There is a need to give special encouragement to the sports sector in developed India as we aim to develop ourselves in every field.”
Sports Minister hopes India to shine in 2036 Olympics
The Sports Minister said, “We aim to be among the top five countries in the field of sports by 2047. However, we must be careful not to miss the opportunity of 2047 to achieve this goal. We have to produce world-class players.” Mandaviya further added, “As we started Khelo India to develop such talents. With the help of Khelo India, young players should get a chance to play.”
Shooter Swapnil Kusale, who won a bronze medal in the recently concluded Paris Olympics, was present at the event. Mandaviya also said, “We have to identify sports talent and provide them with the necessary facilities. In the future, these talented players will become players like Swapnil Kusale. We aim to host the 2036 Olympics in India and we plan to be in the top 10 in the medal table.”
