India has sent a team of 39 players for the Asia Under-15 and Under-17 Junior Badminton Championship. It is to be held in Chengdu, China from August 20 to 25. In preparation for next year’s World Junior Championship, India has selected 39 players for this tournament. The main objective behind this is to build a strong squad of young players.
Gyan Dattu and Tanvi Reddy Andaluri will lead the Indian Under-17 team. They have been selected after the selection trials held in Bangalore. Shyam Bindiganville and Tanvi Patri will be the top singles players in the Under-15 group. India won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal in the Badminton Asia Junior Championship held in Chengdu last season. Bornil Changmei has won the gold medal for India in the under-15 men’s category.
Sanjay Mishra hopes for lots of medals in the Badminton Asia Championship
The Indian contingent left for Chengdu after a preparatory camp. Under the guidance of Indian and foreign coaches at the National Center of Excellence in Guwahati. Badminton Association of India Secretary Sanjay Mishra said, “India is one of the biggest teams for the Badminton Asia Championship and I believe we can win a lot of medals.”
Shaina Manimuthu will be the only player to compete in two events. Apart from women’s singles, Shaina will also compete in doubles with Ekya Shetty in the Under-17 category. Sanjay Mishra said that the players and coaches have worked hard in the camp and our players are now ready to make their mark in the tournament.
