India so far in the Paris Olympics 2024 has performed poorly. They have only won 3 medals. All of them being bronze, most athletes have finished in the fourth position despite being ahead in some of the games. But the hopes are not yet over for the nation. India will be hoping to repeat the historic feat of Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, August 8.
Chopra will go for his second gold medal in a row at the Olympics on Thursday night. Neeraj had done well in the qualifiers and qualified for the finals by throwing 89.34m in his first attempt. Neeraj will enter the final aiming to become the fifth javelin thrower in Olympic history to retain the title. If he wins the title, he will also become the first Indian to win two gold medals in an Olympic individual event.
If the star javelin thrower wins, he will be the fourth Indian athlete since independence to win two individual Olympic medals. Since independence, only badminton player PV Sindhu (one silver and one bronze), wrestler Sushil Kumar (one silver and one bronze), and shooter Manu Bhaker (two bronze) have won two Olympic medals for India.
Can India end their medal misery on Thursday?
There is also another medal hope, the Indian Hockey team will be facing Spain in the bronze medal match. Forgetting the loss of the semi-final against Germany they will look to fight back and win the medal. The team would love to give the best farewell to goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
Playing like ‘champions’, the Indian team’s dream of winning an Olympic gold medal after 44 years was ended by Germany 2-3 in a thrilling match. In just one and a half days, Harmanpreet Singh’s team has to face Spain for the bronze medal. It will be a bid to retain the bronze medal won in Tokyo.
