ICC T20 World Cup: West Indies Announce a Strong Squad

West Indies have revealed their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled for June, with Rovman Powell, representing Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, appointed as the team’s captain.

The West Indies World Cup contingent boasts a lineup brimming with batsmen, a testament to their formidable T20 prowess. With two T20 World Cup victories under their belt, West Indies stand as one of the most formidable teams in the format, with their hosting status only adding to their threat level.

The West Indies Cricket Board announced its squad for the T20 World Cup, naming Rovman Powell as the captain and Alzari Joseph as the vice-captain. Notable inclusions in the squad include the return of Shimron Hetmyer, who was absent from the 2022 T20 World Cup squad, and the inclusion of fast bowler Shamar Joseph, who left a mark during the tour of Australia.

However, the West Indies faced a setback as Sunil Narine declined the offer to join the squad, opting to remain retired from international cricket since last year. Team head coach Darren Sammy revealed that despite requests, Narine stood firm on his decision. Powell had previously urged Narine to reconsider his retirement, emphasizing the need for experienced players to bolster the team’s chances.

The West Indies team boasts a formidable lineup of all-rounders, including Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Jason Holder, and Roston Chase, serving as the squad’s major strengths. Among the participating teams, West Indies becomes the 10th to unveil its 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup, joining the ranks of India, England, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Meanwhile, countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are yet to announce their squads.
