Lucknow Super Giants’ pace spearhead, Mayank Yadav, has been dealt a blow in the ongoing IPL tournament. A victim of injury, Yadav’s journey in the tournament has been cut short, confirmed by Lucknow’s head coach, Justin Langer.
Yadav’s absence from further matches stems from an abdominal muscle injury, sidelining him for the remainder of the 17th IPL season. Despite showcasing his pace prowess in the tournament, claiming seven wickets across four matches, Yadav’s unfortunate injury has halted his campaign prematurely.
Expressing hope for Yadav’s recovery, Langer acknowledged the slim chances of his return for the playoffs, given the severity of the injury. Despite bowling consistently at speeds reaching 155 km/h, Yadav’s inability to complete four overs in two matches hinted at underlying fitness concerns.
Langer revealed that Yadav underwent scans, indicating a recurrence of a previous injury, a setback for the promising young bowler. Drawing on advice from Jasprit Bumrah, Langer emphasized the inherent risks associated with the fast bowler’s craft, underscoring the challenges Yadav faces in his burgeoning career.
Yadav burst onto the IPL scene with a bang, making his debut for Lucknow SuperGiants on March 30. His remarkable speed, clocking 155 km/h, left spectators in awe, earning him consecutive Man of the Match awards in his first two outings. However, Yadav’s meteoric rise was marred by his inability to sustain his initial impact.
The setback marks Yadav’s second injury in the past month, further dampening his promising start to the tournament. Despite a commendable performance against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, claiming six wickets for 41 runs, Yadav’s injury during the third match disrupted his momentum. Despite a brief comeback, fate dealt him another blow, sidelining him once more from competitive action.
