In a spectacular display of skill and resilience, Rohan Bopanna, at 43, etches his name in history alongside partner Matthew Ebden, clinching the Australian Open men’s doubles title.
The victory not only marked Bopanna’s first Australian Open men’s doubles title but also positioned him as the oldest player in the Open Era to achieve such a feat.
Bopanna, who recently ascended to the top position in the men’s doubles rankings, has been recognized for his contributions with the prestigious Padma Shri award.
This victory holds significance beyond the trophy, as Bopanna’s journey to this milestone involved breaking a unique record held by America’s Rajeev Ram.
Bopanna, with his 61st match in the Grand Slam men’s doubles event, became the player with the most matches before securing his first men’s doubles title. Notably, it took 58 matches for Rajeev Ram to achieve this milestone, whereas Bopanna achieved it in his 61st match.
Rohan Bopanna’s historic win not only showcases his enduring determination but also serves as an inspiration, proving that passion and skill know no age limits in the world of tennis.
