Jurgen Klopp will depart Liverpool at the end of the season after nine long years of service. He will be at Anfield for the last time when the club take on Wolves for the final matchday of the 2023-24 season. What started out to be a campaign that was set to lead to many trophies has now culminated in only a Carabao Cup triumph. Despite it not being the perfect send-off for the German, he can be proud of what he has achieved at the club.
Since his very first press conference, Klopp had the club believe that they were capable of doing great things. The team were in no state to compete for trophies, but the German instilled confidence in the side and helped them get better. In his second season, Jurgen Klopp led the team to the Europa League final. Although they lost the competition there, it was the start of something special at Liverpool.
Klopp’s first starting eleven lacked a lot of quality and he needed something more to help lead the Reds to trophies. That was when he went out and brought the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk.
The first big indication of the team that Liverpool were building came in the 2018-19 season. They finished second behind Manchester City and ended up losing the title by just a single point. The disappointment of missing out on the league translated into a stellar run to win the Champions League trophy that season for Klopp’s men. From thereon, the team won eight more trophies including the iconic Premier League trophy in 2020, which ended a 30-year wait.
Jurgen Klopp gave a lot of homegrown talent an opportunity
Probably one of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest achievements at Liverpool was his upliftment of the academy. The German brought the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, Stefan Bajcetic and Jarrel Quansah into the first-team set-up and made them sensational players. While many may argue it is their talent that helped them get into the first team, Klopp certainly had a big hand in their development into becoming a key part of the Scousers.
Liverpool has traditionally been a team that has not spent a lot of money in bringing superstars into a team. Their most expensive signing under Klopp’s regime has been Darvin Nunez. The Uruguayan has been under the spotlight for his lack of finishing and was even linked with a move away from the club. However, reports suggested that it was Klopp who stopped any deal for Nunez to leave the team. His support towards his players has always been incredible and that is what has led to him becoming one of the best managers in the PL.
Klopp’s elite man-management
Jurgen Klopp has not only brought a terrific playing style to Liverpool, but he has also helped transform the culture at the club. The German is terrific when it comes to man management and this is why all his players love playing for him. Since he arrived in the PL, all the clubs have changed their manager except for Liverpool.
A new manager would have huge boots to fill as Klopp’s impact on Liverpool was massive. He brought back the sense of belief in the iconic club and helped them win trophies again. The red side of Liverpool will always be grateful to the German as he has helped them get their club back to their former glory, which they were struggling to get to before his arrival.
