Jyothi Yarraji, India’s national record holder, clinched gold on Thursday in the first outdoor event of the season at the ongoing Harry Schulting Games in Vught, Netherlands. This outstanding achievement came in the 100m hurdle race.
The 24-year-old athlete, who secured a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, delivered a stellar performance by clocking 12.87 seconds to claim gold in the World Athletics E category, marking the fourth-best time of her career.
On the verge of Paris Olympics qualification through rankings despite narrowly missing the qualifying standard of 12.77 seconds for the Paris Olympics, Jyothi Yarraji is on track to secure her spot at the prestigious event based on her world ranking. Currently positioned 26th in the World Athletics Road to Paris list, she stands a strong chance of qualifying. In the women’s 100m hurdles event at the Paris Olympics, 40 runners will compete, with 15 securing berths through world rankings and 25 through qualifying standards.
Previous accomplishments Jyoti Yaraji holds the national record with a timing of 12.78 seconds, achieved at the World University Games last year. Notably, she clinched gold in the 60m hurdles at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran this February, further highlighting her prowess on the track.
