Yuven Sundaramoorthy’s Fight Beyond The Track

Yuven Sundaramoorthy is the most recent in the line. The Indian-origin American racing driver had a fantastic 2024 Indy NXT season. The history of racing indicates that it is never easy for an Indian driver. Indian drivers have long struggled to establish themselves in the high-adrenaline sport due to a variety of circumstances. Including a lack of sponsors and little enthusiasm from spectators in the country.

Driving full-time for Abel Motorsports, he became the first Indian-origin racing driver to finish on the podium in the Indy NXT series last season. The 21-year-old finished on the podium twice in 2024, third at Gateway Motorsports Park and second at the Music City Grand Prix. Sundaramoorthy had a poor start, and it wasn’t until the second part of the season that he raised his level and began to threaten racers further up the pack.

He finished the season with a second-place podium result, placing him ninth in the driver standings. Meanwhile, his teammate Jacob Abel finished second, trailing Andretti Global’s Louis Foster. Yuven Sundamoorthy was considered to be an underdog competing for the championship title in the 2025 season, which begins on March 2. However, due to financial constraints, he will not be participating at all this season.

Yuven Sundaramoorthy Is Ready for F1

He has previously stated that he intends to return in 2026, and he is presently employed by Tesla as a test engineer, where his responsibilities include in-vehicle validation of systems related to traction, ABS, and stability control. Sundamoorthy also works in the development department on new features for all surface types and tyre versions. He stated that his comeback is ‘ideally’ expected to be with his former team, but he is still unsure.

Racing in an Indy NXT vehicle requires a significant commitment. It costs around $1 million to run a competitive season, which is why teams have more than two drivers. Yuven Sundaramoorthy explained, “I plan to make a comeback, hopefully, sooner than later. Ideally, it will be with Abel Motorsports, but again, it is the racing industry, and nothing is certain. My greatest hope is that it will be back with Abel Motorsports.”
